Chelsea – Norwich Stats Recap

Another player who certainly is no longer a fan favorite at Chelsea is Florent Malouda, who came off the bench to replace Lampard in the first half. His stats today are impressive but he will be remember for skying a shot near the end of the game 50 feet over the goal…

Malouda today against Norwich: 94% (49/52 – 29/32 in the last third), FIVE chances created, 1 take-on. Still frustrating to watch sometimes.

Yet another lightning rod of criticism, Fernando Torres, had what was arguably his worst game of the season and looked totally out of focus and the game. With Drogba at the African Cup on Nations, this is a real chance for Torres to shine against a historically weak defense and his performance was shockingly poor…

Torres today against Norwich: 3 shots, 72% (18/25) passing, 0 chances created, 1 take-on. Being honest, he didn’t shoot or distribute today.

It was also clear today that Raul Meireles, despite being a favorite of AVB, isn’t contributing as much as he should in recent matches…

Meireles this season for Chelsea (EPL): 18 games, 1 goal, 2 assists, 25 chances created, 83.4% passing.

Given what Essien has shown since returning (93% passing, good movement) and his prior history a valid argument could be made to see him replace Raul in the midfield on a consistent basis.

All in all, to recap the game and this season Chelsea have lacked momentum and consistency…

This season Chlesea are winless in 4 attempts when trying to record their 4th straight win. Can’t build any consistent momentum this season.

Not a good result today for Chelsea given their Champions League aspirations, but there could be worse things than an away draw to a team in the top half of the Premier League table. The next Chelsea match is against QPR (FA Cup), which will be televised unlike the Portsmouth match.
