Nicolas Anelka has released a statement on his website thanking the Chelsea players, fans, and coaches:
Hello everybody, I wanted to thank each of you for all the support that you always brought to me. .
I love the time I spent in Chelsea, it is a famous club. where I met talented players, very good friends, and coaches. I also enjoyed London and all the wonderful things I lived there. But all good things, come to an end , and it is time for me 33 years. to move to a new adventure, with a new life, another rhythm and another universe..
I am impatient to discover Shanghai and this new environment.. You will be regularly updated about my Chinese stories. .

Best of luck in China Nico!! I still think he has a few years left in his legs and can still play at a high level – I hope he stays healthy and can prove me right.
I for one was sad to have seen him leave #CFC, but I also know its part of the game. I wished for him to have finished on a high note or at least got treated better then the way he was banished from the team. over the years nico been one of the best ball player in the league. He can frustrate you as a fan with his style of play but there is no doubt that he was one of the corner stone of our team, when we got the double 2 years ago.

Agreed, I wish Nico would have left on better terms as well and the same with Alex. I personally thought Anelka would have fit in well with AVB’s style as a wide player who can not only take on defenders with his speed but also pass and score goals – but it wasn’t meant to be 🙁
